
Okanagan Screen Arts Society (OSA)
The Okanagan Screen Arts Society (OSA), a non-profit society in Vernon, was founded in 2016. The OSA curates, presents, and hosts multi-disciplinary arts and culture events at the historic Vernon Towne Theatre which has been in operation as an arts venue since 1929.
Mandate:
• To preserve the historic Vernon Towne Theatre.
• To bring Canadian and International Films to the community of Vernon.
• To provide a live performance space which will give opportunities to local artists to share their compositions and talents at an affordable cost.
• To provide bursaries annually to students pursuing education in the creative arts.
• To contribute to the vitality of the downtown Vernon area.
Impact
One of the key mandates of the OSA is to provide bursaries for students with a permanent address in the North Okanagan who are pursuing a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in the creative arts at an accredited post-secondary institution including: Creative Writing; Digital Arts; Drama; Film Studies; Fine Arts; Music; Performing Arts; Theatre Studies
The OSA Society Bursary Committee recognizes each applicant’s financial needs, academic achievement, community involvement and volunteer work. Future goals and career interests, personal accomplishments, and two supporting letters of reference will be significant in the overall determination of bursary recipients.
